Astrology apps: how Co-Star, The Pattern, Mirror and CHANI grew
Short answer
Mostly without ads. Co-Star reached 20M+ downloads without real marketing by writing daily lines people screenshot and by making friends the product, and Midjourney bought it in spring 2026 (about 4.3M monthly users). CHANI is the top-grossing US astrology app with no ads or investors, and The Pattern grew on word of mouth. Its site runs Plausible and one AppLovin pixel, and we found no Meta ads. CHANI is the top-grossing US astrology app with no ads and no investors. The Pattern grew on word of mouth and Channing Tatum.
All three big apps let you add a person by birthday, without them joining, as an early step.
The paid-funnel apps (Nebula, Astroline, Hint) win on 14–25 question quizzes, fake "accuracy" meters and weekly subscriptions. They also carry the category's scam reputation. Their mid-quiz reveal of your three signs is the part worth copying, not the theatre.
